A husband and wife accused of assaulting each other appeared yesterday before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against 21-year-old Abigail Nelson is that on August 20 at Norton Street, Georgetown, she unlawfully assaulted Quason Nelson. Further, on the same day Quason, 22, is alleged to have unlawfully assaulted Abigail so as to cause her actual bodily harm.
Both husband and wife who reside at 41 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown denied the charges when they were read to them by the magistrate.
No facts of what transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.
The prosecution had no objection to the two being granted their pre-trial liberty but requested that conditions be attached.
Police sergeant Lionel Harvey made a successful application for both parties to seek counselling services from the probation department. Further, since they both reside in the same house, Harvey requested that one of the parties relocate to an alternative address, pending the determination of the matters.
Quason later provided the court with an alternative address to which he can remove.
Abigail and Quason, parents of a seven-month old baby, were later admitted to bail in the sums of $10,000 and $20,000 respectively.
The matters were transferred to Court One for November 8.
