Another woman has been killed allegedly at the hands of a man while consuming alcohol.
Dead is Donna Lakeram of Bartica who was reportedly strangled and stabbed to death at Semang Issano, Middle Mazaruni on Tuesday.
Police said in a press release yesterday that about1000 hours they received a report of the incident which was committed by a man.
Police ranks responded and went to the area where the suspect was arrested and is in police custody.
A team of investigators has been dispatched to continue with further investigations.
Earlier Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News that the incident occurred around 2300 hours on Tuesday night. He said that the two were consuming alcohol when a fight started. It was during this time, that Lakeram was killed he said.
Persaud could not say if the suspect was the woman’s partner. Stabroek News was unable to make contact with the woman’s relatives.
The body is at the Lyken’s Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile the suspect in the murder of Radika Ramjattan has since confessed to killing her, and will soon be charged.
Persaud said the suspect will be charged as soon as a post-mortem examination is performed on the body.
Ramjattan, 42, of Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara (W.C.D) was stabbed once to the chest by her reputed husband on Tuesday afternoon at their home at Tarla Dam, Meten-Meer-Zorg W.C.D.
According to a police release, investigations revealed that the woman and her “former reputed husband from whom she had separated about one week ago were imbibing along with other friends, when an argument developed between them during which she was allegedly stabbed to her chest”.
She was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where she was pronounced Dead on Arrival, the release said.
Police also revealed that a knife suspected to have been used has been recovered.
