The National Association of Women’s Football (NAWF) is looking to push its development mandate when Mineral Promotion in collaboration with the NAWF and Solid Gold kicks off a female knockout tournament at the Bartica Community Centre ground from today until September 3.
The tournament will see teams from Bartica, Lethem, Georgetown and Linden, among other teams, competing for the top prize of $500,000.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament will receive $20,000 and a trophy while the best goalkeeper and highest goal scorer will pocket $10,000 and a trophy each.
Ten matches will be contested and teams will be divided in two groups. Groups A will consist of Eagles United, Georgetown; Star Girls, Linden; Rupununi Strikers, Lethem; Berbice and West Coast; while Group B will have Solid Gold, Bartica; Essequibo Coast; Butterfly, Linden; and East Coast, competing to advance to the finals which is slated for September 3.
Today’s first match will commence at 18:00hrs with Eagles United playing Rupununi Strikers while the feature game will be between East Coast and Butterfly from 20:00 hours.
President of the NAWF Vanessa Dickenson said that this tournament will be one of many to come, especially since the association is looking to play as many competitions as possible to expose the talent of the female players in the country.
