The Lions Club of West Demerara recently wrapped its annual vocational and school bag distribution programme for 100 community children.
The programme, which was aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 17 years, ran for five days and concluded last Saturday at the West Demerara Secondary School.
In a statement, Club President Lion Stephan Ramcharran said the programme saw the participation of 100 children and focused on imparting knowledge in areas of art and craft and coaching in various sporting disciplines, while addressing issues such as etiquette, building self esteem, personal safety, road safety and truancy. In addition, the Lions Club distributed one hundred packed school bags filled with school stationery and hygiene kits to students.
Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs, the statement noted. Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with nearly 1.3 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in 205 countries and geographical areas around the world, it added.
