Dear Editor,
Before I was removed from the board of the Guyana Water Inc, I raised the issue of the responsibility for water hydrants in the city. I contended then, and raised the matter with members of the cabinet, that government must identify an agency and give them the responsibility for erecting and maintaining fire hydrants in the city, and at the same time make the appropriate and adequate financing available.
Editor, this should be a simple matter, that for years I have pleaded to have resolved. I suppose we are waiting for a major disaster before some action is taken.
This situation seems to mirror the attitude of the hierarchy in the treatment of the capital of Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
Hamilton Green
Mayor
