(WICB) St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board confirms that it has received documents relating to legal action filed by the West Indies Players’ Association in the High Court of Justice of Trinidad and Tobago. The claim is related to the issuance of No Objection Certificates (issued to players by WICB) which require players to fulfill international duties for the West Indies team if selected.
The claim seeks approximately US$20,000,000 in damages for WIPA and its members. The WICB’s legal team is studying the documents and a further statement will be made at the appropriate time. The WICB regrets that WIPA has taken this action in the middle of the MOU/CBA negotiations. Note: Players who secure offers to play in domestic overseas leagues require NOCs from their home boards. The WICB has never refused to grant any player an NOC.
