The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) recorded two victories yesterday when the Guyana Rugby Football Union sevens tournament continued at the National Park.
In their first game the GDF team defeated the Yamaha Caribs 10 to five with forward Avery Corbin opening the score line by completing a try in the first minute of the second half.
Caribs’s forward Volan Adams tied the game a minute later with a try of his own but GDF’s running back Lloyd Hutson completed a try to seal GDF’s victory.
In their second game, the GDF outlasted the Hornets Rugby Club 10 to seven.
GDF’s winger Breon Walks recorded two tries one in the second minute of the first half and the other in the fourth minute of the second half.
Hornets’ forward and former national captain Elwyn Chase then scored a face-saving try which he then duly converted.
In an entertaining, high-scoring third game, the Caribs defeated the Hornets by 26 points to 24.
For the Caribs, Keron Williams scored two tries while his teammates Walter George and Adams each scored a try while national coach Theodore Henry scored three conversions.
Peabo Hamilton recorded two tries for the Hornets while Lance Adonis and Troy Bascombe scored one each and Ryan Gonsalves, two conversions.
The tournament continues next Saturday at the same venue at 3pm.
