Education Minister Shaik Baksh on Friday presented a cheque valued $25,000 to National Grade Six Assessment (NGAS) 2011 top student Terron Randolph Alleyne, following through with a promise he had made to the student.
The education ministry in a press release said that the presentation was made at the minister’s office at 26 Brickdam, Georgetown, and the ministry in a congratulatory note to the young man praised his outstanding performance.
“We at the Ministry of Education are proud of your exceptional achievement. Scoring 537 marks out of a possible score of 552 and achieving the top position in the country is a noteworthy accomplishment. You have proven what Aristotle said when he mentioned that ‘we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit’. You have risen to the top and credit must be given to you for your hard work, commitment and dedication. You have made your region, school, family, teachers and all those who have supported you proud.”
The education ministry in presenting Alleyne with the monetary award in recognition of his outstanding performance also encouraged him “to keep up the excellent work and continue to be an exemplar for children throughout this country.”
