A man who told the court that he has no knowledge of breaking and entering the dwelling place of another and allegedly stealing items valued $278,000 was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave–Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation is that between September 18-19, 2010 at Georgetown, Devon Nurse attempted to commit a felony, that is to say he attempted to break and enter the dwelling place of Lavern Backer. On September 10, 2010, at Georgetown Nurse allegedly broke and entered the dwelling place of Jenny Persaud and stole a Panasonic television set, one music set and one iron, totaling $278,000 in value.
The magistrate asked the man if he would like to be placed on bail but the defendant stated that he did not have any money.
Police Corporal Lionel Harvey objected to the accused being granted bail. The magistrate then remanded the accused to prison until October 14.
The matter would be called again at Court One.
