Two adults accused of assaulting a schoolboy were yesterday each admitted to bail in the sum of $10,000 by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on August 30, at Royal Castle, Sheriff Street, Georgetown, Marcia West, 31, a teacher and Musa Durlige, 23, unlawfully assaulted the boy so as to cause him actually bodily harm.
The jointly-charged brother and sister, of 53 Dennis Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, denied the charge when it was read to them by the magistrate.
Attorney-at-law Abiola Wong-Innis in her address to the court said that on the day in question, the defendants were at Royal Castle in the company of a 10-year-old girl.
According to Wong-Innis, the girl, who was in the play pen at the restaurant, subsequently told West that a boy had put his hand under her skirt.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar later told the court that after receiving the complaint, West went over to where the boy was sitting and dealt him a slap. The Corporal said also that the girl, in her statement, indicated that she did not see who had touched her but said she saw the virtual complainant and another boy sitting when she turned around.
The prosecutor had no objection to the bail application made by the lawyer. The two accused were then informed that they would be admitted to bail in the sum of $10,000 each and the matter was transferred to Court One for November 17.
