A teenager arraigned on two counts of armed robbery and a larceny charge was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Dellon David is that on August 14 at Georgetown, being armed with a knife he robbed Abby Jonas of a quantity of local and US currency, six silver rings, a cell phone and other items totaling $334,300.
Additionally, being armed with a knife, he is alleged to have robbed Terrence Park of a quantity of local currency, three amplifiers, a DVD player, a laptop computer and other items valued $968,917.
Meanwhile, on August 29 the 17-year-old is alleged to have stolen from the person of Llewellyn Mitchell one cell phone valued $60,000.
The lad of lot 64 Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust, was not required to plead to the armed robbery charges while he denied the larceny charge when it was read to him by the magistrate.
Attorney-at-law Euclin Gomes made an application for his client to be granted his pre-trial liberty, citing that he has no antecedents, poses no risk of flight, has a fixed place of abode and has been cooperating with police.
The prosecution objected to the accused being granted bail on the grounds that the offences are serious and prevalent ones.
Additionally, Police Corporal Venetta Pindar advanced that the teen may not return to court to stand trial if granted bail and may want to interfere with the witnesses.
When asked with whom the lad lives, the court was told by the attorney that his client lives with his grandmother. The prosecutor, however, said that its concern was that his grandmother may not be able to control him. After listening to the particulars of the charges the student and part-time car-wash worker was told that he would be granted $35,000 bail on the larceny charge but would be remanded on the other two charges.
The larceny charge was transferred to Court One for November 17 while the other two will be called again on October 14 at the said court.
