The Bakewell Softball Tournament organized by the Guyana Softball League continued last Sunday with matches in the open and over-40 categories at various grounds.
At the Ministry of Education ground, Aftab Bacchus smashed 69 runs to lead Omesh to a crushing 72-run victory over Bel Air.
Omesh batted first and amassed 179 for six behind Bacchus’s brilliant innings before closing the show on Bel Air who could only manage 107 runs. Rabindra Narine bowled efficiently to capture five for 13 runs.
The same venue also saw another half century as Imtiaz Mohamed scored a classy 58 to lead Floodlights past Park Rangers by 26 runs.
Floodlights after being bowled out for 168 runs held their nerve to hold Park Rangers to 142 for eight off their allotted overs.
In a low-scoring match at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Trophy Stall ‘A’ walked away with a big win as they defeated Regal by 8 wickets.
Regal managed to reach a paltry score of 112 all out as the tight bowling and good field placing by their opponents proved critical in preventing a runs spree.
In reply, Mark Harold’s leading score of 45 took Trophy Stall to 113 for eight in their allotted overs to pull off the win.
In the over-40 category at the Cyril Potter College ground, Savage Masters had a convincing seven wicket win over Industry Super Kings.
Super Kings batted first and made their way to a total of 160 all out as Iswar Persaud scored 39 runs. Malo Malone had a good bowling spell for Savage Masters as he picked up four wickets for 17 runs.
In reply, Savage Masters cruised to the finish, ending the game on 162 for three as Malo Malone produced again, this time with the bat to score a well put together 55 not out with support from Falim Mohamed who contributed 43 runs to the victory.
