A security guard accused of assaulting a man was yesterday admitted to bail in the sum of $20,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on August 15, at Stabroek Market, Georgetown, Shawn Adams unlawfully assaulted Embria Woolford, so as to cause him actual bodily harm.
Adams, 41, of 158 Curtis Street, Albouys-town, denied the assault charge when it was read to him by the Magistrate. No facts of what transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.
Adams’ attorney made an application for his client to be admitted to reasonable bail on the grounds that he posed no risk of flight, had a fixed address and had been cooperating with police investigations.
The prosecution had no objection to the accused being granted his pre-trail liberty but requested that bail be set in a substantial sum to he returns to court to stand trial.
After listening to the submissions of both the prosecution and defence, the father of four was informed that he would be placed on $20,000 bail. His matter was transferred to Court One for November 18.
