TAUNTON, England, CMC – Former Jamaica and West Indies off-spinner Gareth Breese made little contribution as his Durham went down by 39 runs to Somerset in their Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-final on Sunday.
Winning the toss and batting first, Durham were dismissed for 219 off 38.5 overs, with Breese suffering the indignity of a first-ball “duck”.
Captain Dale Benkenstein top scored with 82 while Ian Blackwell go 41.
When Somerset batted, they had cruised to 165 for three off 27 overs when rain ended the game prematurely, with the Duckworth/Lewis par score already achieved.
Breese was the most successful bowler with two for 27 from his six overs but Arul Suppiah stroked 57 to lead Somerset’s charge.
In the final, Somerset will now face Surrey who beat Sussex by 71 runs in the other semi-final.
