A $130 million primary school under construction in the new Diamond/Grove housing scheme is expected to be completed before the start of the next academic year, the Ministry of Education has said in a press release.
Work on the building began in July this year and when the structure is completed, it would accommodate about 1,000 students and there would be 24 internet connections, a kitchenette and sanitary blocks.
The facility is to be handed over to the Region Four administration.
Project contractor Radesh Rameshwar said work is well ahead of schedule and his team is making every effort to complete the school within the time frame and specifications outlined in the contract with the education ministry.
According to the release, Education Minister Shaik Baksh, on an inspection visit to the site last Wednesday, said that he was satisfied with the progress of construction. He noted that the facility would eliminate the travelling expenses for parents who send their children to schools outside of the Diamond/Grove area.
Baksh also disclosed that two nursery schools will soon be built at Diamond and Grove respectively, the release added.
