$49.8M contract cleared for Kaburi road rehab

The government has given the go ahead for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Kaburi Village road, under the Amaila Falls Hydroelectric Project, Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon announced yesterday.

Speaking at his post-cabinet briefing at Office of the President, Luncheon said that Cabinet gave its no objection to the $49.8 million contract. Kaburi Village is located in Region 7, about 70 km from the proposed site for the Amaila Falls hydropower plant.  This contract is outside of the US$15.4M Amaila Access Road project that had been awarded to Fip Motilall’s Synergy Holdings, Luncheon explained and is being undertaken by the government.

Back in June, the project had been advertised under the Ministry of Public Works.  Senior Engineer within the Ministry of Public Works Walter Willis had told this newspaper then that the project was initiated following discussions with international donor agencies and members of the community.
