Father Thurston Riehl, of St Sidwell’s Anglican Church, said the church has an important role to play in providing guidance to the next generation. He was speaking on Sunday at a special service held to mark the 100th anniversary of St Sidwell’s Primary School.
In his address, the minister told the congregation that many societies have lost sight of the role and responsibility of the church and education in preparing the next generation to be effective and participating members of our society. “He further stated that the church has the responsibility of giving moral and spiritual guidance to all in society so that they can make meaningful contributions to the lives of their families and to society,” a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said.
The congregation, which included Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, participated in the special service comprising the reading of passages of Scripture from the Holy Bible and Holy Communion. The service started a week-long programme of activities planned to mark the centennial anniversary such as a reading tent, a photographic exhibition, an appreciation ceremony honouring past head teachers and teachers, a camp fire and a dinner and dance. The prime minister attended St Sidwell’s for his primary education, GINA said.
