A Helena No.2 Mahaica family was on Tuesday night terrorized by armed bandits, who entered their home and held them at gunpoint.
According to a police release, at about 10:30 pm on Tuesday, minibus driver Daniel Subramani, his wife Taranella Subramani and their two children were in hammocks at their home at Helena No. 2, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, when two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered and held them at gunpoint.
The release went on to say that during the incident the perpetrators assaulted Subramani about his head and body with the firearm and also assaulted his wife. They then ransacked the house and escaped. It is not yet known what has been stolen, police added.
Subramani has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, while Taranella Subramani was treated and sent away.
This is the second robbery under arms that has taken place for the month of September. On Monday morning Andrew David was accosted by three men on motorcycles, while in his car in the vicinity of Saffon and Sussex streets. He was relieved of $300,000 and his car, but the latter was recovered a few streets away from the scene.
