Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) yesterday blamed voltage fluctuations for disruptions in the water supply to residents along the East Bank and East Coast of Demerara.
The situation has affected water supply to the Diamond Housing Scheme, Caledonia, and from Coverden to Craig, on the East Bank of Demerara; and from Sparendaam to Clonbrook, on the East Coast of Demerara, GWI said in a statement.
“GWI is unable to delivery normal service due to irregular power provided to our well stations and water treatment plants located on the East Bank and East Coast of Demerara,” GWI Director of Operations Joseph Codette was quoted as saying in the statement.
Codette also said that mobile generators have been deployed to provide temporary power to affected water productions sites, until the voltage imbalances have been rectified.
“We have received full support and cooperation from our partners at the Guyana Power and Light Company,” he added, while saying “we are working with them to have normal water service restored in the swiftest manner possible.”
As a result of the situation, GWI appealed to all affected customers to be patient, while noting that relief will be provided by the mobile generators which have been deployed. GWI also urged customers to desist from breaking mains or tampering with any of the water utility’s infrastructure.
