The Upper Corentyne Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCCI) said 27 units of blood were collected when it hosted its annual blood drive at the 41st Corriverton Town Day.
In a press release, the UCCCI said the drive conducted by the Berbice Blood Bank was held at the Shell V-Power Gas Station, in Corriverton, in cooperation with its management. Blood was collected from 12.30pm to 7.30pm.
Dr Mahadeo, CEO of the Berbice Health Authority, visited the donation site to speak to donors and persons who had come to view the proceedings. Dr Mahadeo was able to dispel many of the myths and fears that still existed about the blood donation process.
UCCCI President Vishnu Doerga, after making his donation, said he was hopeful that more persons will seek to become informed about the facts and benefits about blood donation since it is an opportunity to participate in a noble cause.
Participants were given an optional incentive package, including fuel from Shell Corriverton, rice from Nand Persaud and Company, flour donated by K Nizamudeen and ATM cards by the Demerara Bank Corriverton Branch.
Due to this year’s successful drive, the UCCCI is encouraging other organisations to host blood drives. At last year’s drive, 15 units of blood were collected.
