Victoria Kings hammered Golden Stars 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at BV Community Centre Ground as the Mackeson Premier League resumed after a one-week break for the World Cup Qualifiers.
Scoring for the Kings were Aubrey Gibson in the
9th, 14th, 33rd, 68th, and 84th minute, Winston Pompey netted in the 27th , 44th, and 70th minute while former National Under-17 Striker Rolston ‘Crespo’ Morrison netted the other goal in the 76th minute as the Kings went on a goal rampage.
The Kings showed their superior skills from as early as the 3rd minute when Pompey missed a goal from 15 yards, as he fired a shot wide of the target after being set clear on goal with a push through from national under-20 midfielder Calvin De Souza.
Gibson opened the scoring for Kings when he netted a volley at the first post from a Reuben Morris cross. Gibson got his second goal five minutes later when he slammed a powerful left foot shot through the legs of Golden Stars keeper who was beaten by the speed of the ball.
Victoria King’s keeper Andrew Williams denied Golden Stars Carlos Kingston from just inside the 18-yard box with a brilliant one-hand save as Kings central defender Clayton Wilson failed to clear.
Meanwhile, Pompey opened his account when he tapped in an Alden Lawrence’s square pass and he added his second when he headed in Dewayne Stephens’ cross from the far post.
Gibson would complete his hat-trick when his shot was misjudged by the Stars’ keeper who chucked the ball into his own net.
The Victoria Kings went into half time with a 5-0 lead; and most of the supporters of Golden Stars left the ground as the writing was already on the wall. In the second half the Kings continued their dominance but missed many clear chances.
Golden Stars on the other hand did not go down without a fight and created a few chances of their own, despite their efforts, however, their front men lacked the technical abilities and precision and could not finish.
Gibson added his fourth goal when he beat the opposition’s keeper with a fierce left foot shot. Pompey netted his third goal when he shot home from 6 yards after Sherlock Dowden ran clear of his marker and slipped the ball for Pompey who was left unmarked.
Rolston Morrison placed his name on the score sheet with his first goal of the season for Kings when he shook up Golden Stars defence and fired a powerful right foot into the roof of the net.
Gibson sealed the deal for Kings when he converted a penalty after winger Dewayne Stephens was brought down from behind in the box by a defender from Golden Stars.
It was the most goals a single team has ever scored in the EDFA Senior League since 2006 when Victoria Kings thrashed Enterprise FC 9-1 and went on to win the league that same year. The defeat for Golden Stars means that they are winless and remain at the bottom of the table with 1 point.
