Labourer accused of cuffing, broadsiding man with cutlass

A labourer accused of cuffing and broadsiding a man with a cutlass was on Monday admitted to bail in the sum of $75,000 when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistratesโ€™ Court.

The allegation against Alfa Bobb is that on August 27 at Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Richard Samuels.

The defendant, who resides at 911 Queen Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by the magistrate.

Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey who presented the facts of the case said that the two are known to each other and the defendant had accused Samuels of stealing his bicycle.

Upon seeing the complainant on the day in question, Harvey said that Bobb rode up to him and dealt him a cuff after which he broadsided him several times about his body with a cutlass.

The court heard that the virtual complainant subsequently sought medical attention after which a police report was made and later the defendant was arrested and charged.

After listening to the facts of the case, the magistrate informed the parties that they would be placed on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.

The matter will be called again on September 26 at Court Three.
