Guyana is among the 10 Caribbean countries to have entered into an agreement with China to implement four strategies to promote common development in agriculture and fisheries at the recent China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum.
At the forum in Trinidad, it was agreed that “four strategies will be implemented to exploit the potentials for cooperation to promote common development in agriculture and fisheries,” a statement released yesterday by the Ministry of Agriculture said.
These strategies include the establishment of China-Caribbean Working Group on Agriculture and Fisheries Cooperation” and the enhancement of cooperation in human resource capacity building for Agriculture and Fisheries. They have also agreed to “conduct cooperation on agricultural trade and investment in agriculture and fisheries,“ in order to enhance the market supply of diversified products and to improve resource development and give full play to the advantages and complementarities of each country in technology, the resources, capital and market. The countries also agreed to strengthen research cooperation in agricultural and fisheries technology.
The signatories to the document are Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. The Symposium on Cooperation on Agriculture and Fisheries and the Agricultural and Fisheries Technology Exhibition were held in parallel to the Forum.
