Iron water: A resident of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara collected this sample of water flowing through the tap in his yard. According to him, this has been the colour of water that residents have been receiving over the past weeks. When contacted, Guyana Water Inc (GWI) Public Relations Officer Timothy Austin said that that the problem had not been reported but promised that the issue will be addressed. The area, Austin explained, is serviced by a well station which does not have an iron removal facility and due to Guyana’s naturally high iron content in the soil, customers served by well stations get water which is rich in iron content. Flushing of the systems is done in a systematic way but once a matter is reported GWI will travel to the community and address the issue. Austin encouraged persons with complaints to call GWI on 227-8701 or email the utility company at customercallcentre@gwi.gy.
