PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago have received a TT$3.3 million (US$519 685) boost from the National Gas Company for their Champions League Twenty20 campaign.
T&T were scheduled to leave yesterday for India for the CLT20 where they will do battle in a qualifying competition against Ruhuna Rhinos of Sri Lanka and Leicestershire of England, for a place in the main draw of the lucrative tournament.
The sponsorship includes $180 000 for the pre-league preparation, another million dollars for the actual tournament, two tranches of $300 000 as incentives for the team dependent on their progress and the remaining $1.5 million for development of the game locally.
“We are continuing our partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and we are assisting our national cricketers who are soon going on the world stage to make T&T proud,” said NGC president Andrew McIntosh.
“We have a lot of faith in this team and we are looking forward to them returning with the trophies for best team and even best captain in Daren Ganga.”
T&T will warm up against Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders before beginning the qualifying competition against Ruhuna next Monday. They face Leicestershire the following day.
They qualified for the tournament by winning the Caribbean Twenty20 earlier this year.
The CLT20 is set to run from September 19 to October 9.
