The Ministry of Education’s National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) in collaboration with Guyanese Assisting in Development (GUYAID) yesterday held its annual award ceremony, where the winning schools and students in the GUYAID Essay Writing Competition held on June 9 and 14 this year were awarded. There were three categories and themes: the Under-12 Category with the theme - ‘A Day in My Life as the Executive President of Guyana’; the Over-12 Category with the theme -‘Health & Family Life Education is of Great Importance to Adolescents’; and the Over-14 Category with the theme – ‘Enhancing Information Communication Technology – A National Imperative’. In the first category, Sheet Anchor Primary dominated with 1st and 2nd positions, while Cropper Hall Primary came in 3rd. In the Over-12, Abram Zuil Secondary attained 1st position, while North Georgetown Secondary and Tutorial Academy came in 2nd and 3rd, respectively; and in the Over-14, Tutorial Academy, Abram Zuil and ST Stanislaus College were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively. First prize winners received $3,000 gift certificates which can be exchanged at Austin’s Book Services for books, while all winners received plaques for their schools.
