Miss Amerindian Heritage has been given the impetus to become much more competitive this year with the announcement that the winner will appear on the Caribbean’s Next Top Model show as a guest.
The pageant is one of the feature presentations of Amerindian Heritage Month hosted under the auspices of Pauline Sukhai, Minister of Amerindian Affairs. It is being produced by Sonia Noel, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs and directed by regionally renowned production designer Richard Young.
So far, the 10 contestants were presented sashes bearing their region’s name in a ceremonial inauguration at an inter faith service at Umana Yana on August 31. Last Sunday, at the El Dorado Inn, the contestants underwent a preliminary judging, a first for this pageant.
A Miss Personality award has been included and is to be determined by points assessed from their interactive and engaging conversation with a select panel of judges, at this preliminary judging. This year, there is also a platform spokesperson award presented to the contestant with the most in-touch commitment to her assigned platform. Part of this score was tallied at this preliminary judging.
Other awards include: Miss Disciplined, Miss Congeniality, Miss Elegance, Best introduction, Best Talent, and Best Traditional wear.
