Cabinet has approved four contracts which will see improvement in the agriculture and infrastructure areas.
According to a GINA press release, Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon, at a post Cabinet briefing said that in the drainage and irrigation sector, supplementary drainage will be constructed at East Black Bush Polder at a cost of $349.86 million. An access road to the rice seed facility at Number 56 Village, Corentyne will be constructed in the infrastructure sector and will cost $34.8 million.
Also, in the agriculture sector, laboratory equipment will be supplied, delivered and installed at National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) and will be used in the seed, germ plasm, plant diagnostic, soil chemistry and microbiology laboratories. The value of this award is $50.38 million. In addition, NAREI will also be supplied with laboratory equipment, reagents and chemicals which will be delivered, installed and tested. The equipment will be used in the Biological, Control and Tissue Culture Laboratories and fro the Government Analyst, Food and Drug Department. This project is worth US$293,590, the release said.
