The Port Kaituma and Mabaruma Adventist churches collectively donated $110,000 to students in the North West District in monetary forms and also in form of school supplies such as uniforms, footwear and school bags.
These contributions were made during community outreach efforts by the two churches from the district, a press release said yesterday.
The Port Kaituma Church, the release said, issued $10,000 each to five children in the community to purchase school supplies.
The Mabaruma Church, handed over items at the regional office of the Education Department where Schools Welfare Officer, Leah Robinson, was present. She expressed gratitude to the pastor and members of the churches for their contribution.
In response, Pastor Andre Williams, who manages the Adventist churches in the district, related that it is the belief of the church to practice what it preaches and teaches. Williams also pointed out that every child should be given the opportunity to receive quality education.
According to the press release, community outreach is a constant aspect of the church’s work and it has been customary to make such contributions to the community. Over the years, the release went on, many food items, clothing and monies have been distributed and also, medical assistance has been provided. However, it was noted that this was the first occasion whereby the churches decided to offer assistance to the school children of the community.
