The Shaheed Boys and Girls Orphanages have appointed Counsellor Yernesi Yansen to assist in the administration of the facilities.
According to a press release from secretary to the Orphanages Committee Hakeem Khan, Yansen’s appointment is aimed at providing in-house counselling for the children to assist them to overcome trauma they may have suffered. She is also expected to advise the Board of Management on implementing policies that will improve the general well-being of the children. The orphanages currently host 65 children.
Yansen holds a BSc in Social Sciences with a major in Social Work. She is also a trained teacher from the Cyril Potter College of Education. Yansen is currently employed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation as a Social Worker (Psychiatric Department) and has qualified in several other fields as Drug Treatment, Issues and Discharge Planning, Cognitive Behavioural Intervention for Trauma in schools and Community Health Educator through UG, the Guyana Red Cross Society and UNICEF.
