Keiona Crawford defeated Kord Johnson in the final of the table tennis competition when the National Sports Commission (NSC) in partnership with the Region 10 administration kicked off its sixth Day of Interaction with a bang at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground on Sunday. Some 12 persons participated in the competition.
Eight persons took part in the draughts competition with Jason Swarving defeating Yaric Halley in the final.
Of the six teams that participated in the dominoes contest, Ituni, with 37 games, edged Spikeland, 32 games, into second place.
Kwakwani took third place with 24 games.
In cycling, 25 cyclists participated in seven categories.
Nine teams participated in the football contest which was won by Wismar Eagles with Milerock second. In softball, Spikeland and Aroaima met in the final with the teams playing to a tie.
In the three-over affair, both teams scored 18 runs.
The final result was decided on a super three balls bowl-off with Aroaima making eight runs and Spikeland failing to get off the mark.
In the women’s contest Old England/Yaribo scraped home against Coomaka by scoring the winning run off the last ball.Participants from near and far-flung communities such as Kwakwani, Landerville, Muritaro, Kara Kara, Aroaima, Coomaka, Ituni, Maria Elizabeth, Old England, Wisroc, Mileroc, Spikeland, Raribo participated in the events.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony said government’s commitment to the sport programme has been successful.
Outstanding performers in both the individual and group categories were presented with trophies while sport gear was also distributed to the various communities to help develop sports in the region.
