The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) says the power outage that occurred in Anna Regina on Sunday was due to the failure of a high voltage cable and it is working to restore power to Essequibo consumers.
Power was restored to Anna Regina the same day and corrective works, which required a further outage, were conducted on Monday, the company said in a press release. In addition, yesterday a circuit breaker failed, leading to a shut down of the plant and loss of power to consumers on the Essequibo Coast.
Personnel from GPL’s Engineering Services Unit are at the location to ensure that power is restored as soon as possible. The company further advised that more work will be done at the location today to prevent further unscheduled outages.
According to GPL, the regional executive is being updated on the situation. Further, it noted that it will advise consumers of steps being taken to prevent another power outage and thanked them for their continued patience.
