The Caribbean Media Corporation is reporting that six Guyanese have been held in Suriname on drug-related charges after crossing over from the Corentyne.
CMC today said that Surinamese police said eight people, including six Guyanese nationals, have been remanded to prison after they were arrested on drug related charges following a search of a boat in which they were passengers.
Police spokesman Humphrey Naarden told CMC that a joint police and army patrol had spotted a speed boat crossing the Corentyne River from Guyana to the Dutch speaking country.
The spokesman told CMC that the eight people, including three women, had been acting suspiciously and after a search was carried out 14 parcels containing the drugs were found.
