Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai remembers late Toshao McLean Devair as a “mature leader,” who was committed to developing Orealla Village.
Sukhai made these comments at a funeral service held for Devair on Wednesday, a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said. Devair was involved in all aspects of village life, she said, adding that he had a vision for the Region Six community and he worked to advance it. He was also remembered as an advocate for tourism in Orealla and included a draft for it in the community’s development plan.
Sukhai said she was confident that the other leaders will carry on his vision for the community. She urged them to honour him in this regard as he was “a highly respectable individual,” GINA said, noting that she pledged the ministry’s continued support to the community.
Chairperson of the National Toshaos Council Yvonne Pearson recalled Devair as a man of few words, but who had everyone’s ear when he spoke. She echoed Sukhai’s comments regarding his vision for the community and urged the villagers to cooperate to see the initiatives and plans he had to fruition.
Devair was elected Toshao of Orealla in 2009. He passed away recently after a brief illness.
