The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) closed the first day of their Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Noble House Seafoods two day second division match against Vikings in a strong position.
At the close of play GDF were 194/4 after 32 overs replying to Vikings 113 all out.
Vikings, batting first, were bowled out for 113 in 30 overs with Vikenand Dahloo top scoring with 47 in an innings that contained eight boundaries and two sixes.
Jerimiah Harris 4-20, Paul Castello 3-29 and Randy Lindore 2-10 shared the wickets for GDF.
In reply, GDF closed on 194/4 in 32 overs. Guyana Under-19 opener Kevon Boodie and Castello scored 32 runs each while Harris and Lindore were not out at the end 60 and 45 runs respectively.
At the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) ground; midday showers brought a premature end to the day’s proceedings. GNIC, who won the toss and batted first, reached 49/1 after 11 overs with opener Ovid Richardson scoring on 34.
But, a heavy shower fell for about 15 minutes leaving the field very damp and play was called off for the day.
At the University of Guyana Ground; 23 wickets fell on a dramatic day of cricket, as both sides battled to take control on the opening day.
Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) taking first strike, was dismissed for 117 in 36 overs, with Omesh Dhaniram 45 and skipper Jermaine Horatio 26, being the principal scorers. The pace/spin combination of Shane Ketherome (4-31) and off-spinner Marlon Mangru (4-21) combined well for Everest to skittle the Queenstown club.
DCC fought back well and dismissed the Camp Road side for 84 in just 26 overs. Denesh Mangal played a lone-hand finishing unbeaten on 43. Off-spinner Dennis Squires 3-26, Horatio 2-15 and new-ball quick bowler Dennis George 2-38, were the wicket-takers.
Batting a second time, DCC slipped to 14/3 for a slender lead of 47. Day two continues today from 10:00hrs.
