The Government of Guyana welcomes Palestine’s application for membership of the United Nations and believes the application before the Security Council should be accorded the most careful consideration, a release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.
The government also reaffirmed its support for a permanent two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Having formally recognized the state of Palestine “as a free, independent, and sovereign state based on its 1967 borders” the ministry said, Guyana renewed its longstanding solidarity with the Palestinian people as well as its support “for its legitimate aspirations.”
The release went on to say that Guyana urged the parties to return to the negotiating table, renewed its support for efforts by the international community to assist in arriving at “a just and lasting peace.”
The release noted that a significant majority of the UN member states now recognized the State of Palestine.
