(Barbados Nation) Britain thinks the time has come for Barbados and other islands in the region to enact legislation that will punish those who bribe public officials or engage in any form of corruption.
Speaking at a reception over the weekend at his Pine Hill residence, British High Commissioner Paul Brummell gave the thumbs up to his country’s Bribery Act that went before parliament last year and came into force on July 1.
“We think it is very good legislation and heavily in the interest of all countries to introduce similar legislation – and, of course, at the range of international conventions such as the United Nations (UN) convention.
“Bribery is a problem everywhere in the world; so I think that the more we have such strong legislation introduced by as many countries as possible, then the more we can collectively as a global community fight against the problem,” he said.
