The drivers of these two vehicles—PGG 3132 (top) and HB 2569 (bottom)—escaped death (and one even entirely uninjured), after they collided at the corner of David Street and Vlissengen Road. According to the driver of PGG 3132, he had just turned onto Vlissengen from the Kitty seawall road, when, as he was approaching David Street the driver of the taxi (bottom) shot across the road without stopping at the intersection. The driver said he attempted to pull away from the taxi in order to avoid a collision, but this proved futile as he was still hit and sent spinning onto the bridge. The taxi went into the trench and the driver, Edwin Etwaroo, 55, who sustained head injuries was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment.
