Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Manniram Prashad and Canadian High Commissioner David Devine on Monday discussed Guyana’s tourism potential and ways of deepening ties between the two nations.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release
Prashad acknowledged the longstanding relationship between the two countries and gave assurances that Guyana was committed to further strengthening these ties. Guyana and Canada established diplomatic relations in 1966.
Prashad noted that there is tremendous potential for expanding co-operation between the two countries in the areas of trade and investment.
He also spoke of Guyana’s growing tourism sector and its ecological, nature and adventure-based tourism offerings. In addition, they examined the possibilities of Canada lending its expertise and support by training specialists in various fields to enhance Guyana’s human resource capacity and contribute towards the growth and transformation of the economy.
Last month the high commissioner presented his credentials to President Bharrat Jagdeo at State House. He replaces Francois Montour who departed Guyana in early August at the end of his tour of duty.
