Construction is being intensified at the Supenaam and Parika stellings to facilitate the roll-on roll-off ferries expected next month-end.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release work is being particularly intensified at Parika, Region Three so that it will be finished on time.
At a recent meeting with engineers in charge of roads, bridges, river and sea defence and airstrips, Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn said normal rehabilitation/maintenance works are progressing well. He said he is pleased with reports from the agencies though there have been some “minor slippages” in works done by contractors which will be addressed.
Benn said too the recent fire at the ministry’s bond where all spares and equipment were destroyed has presented some challenges but “we think that we would be able to keep the ferry service going, albeit some changes, with adopting some strategies with respect to the deployment of the vessels but generally I think we have a fair coverage of the works being done.” The minister is expected to make field visits to sites where works are ongoing countrywide. Plans also include interacting with residents about the execution of works in their area.
