Residents of the Berbice River, Region 10 are in search of a man who is missing and feared drowned after the boat he was in sank.
According to sources in Laddersville, Aroaima, Berbice River some time after 2 am today residents responded to loud screams coming from the river. They ran down to the river and saw a small boat going down.
In the boat were 23-year-old Dhanraj Singh of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, who is now missing and feared drowned, a 23-year-old woman and two children aged 7 and 6 years old. An eyewitness said the woman, whose name he couldn’t recall, was screaming: “De boat leaking and we going down! Help! Help!”
Before assistance could reach the family the boat had sunk partially resulting in Singh falling overboard. The woman and the two children were holding on for their lives and were rescued.
“He been drunk man, da is why he fall overboard,” the witness said.
A team spent the hours searching for the man but was unsuccessful. A report was made at the Aroaima Police Station and according to a reliable source police from Linden are currently in the area assisting in the search, while carrying out further investigations.
The family was crossing from the Hururu Mission to Laddersville when the unfortunate incident occurred.
