Roti Hut, a part of the Bakewell group of companies, yesterday handed over a $500,000 cheque to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) at the company’s main branch on Albert Street.
According to acting president of the GFF, Franklin Wilson, the financial contribution was made to aid the national squad in their quest to appear at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“On behalf of the GFF I would like to express my gratitude to Roti Hut and Bakewell for their contributions to the team,” Wilson stated at the presentation.
The Roti Hut package will also contain Polo shirts and banners for the team which will amount to a one million dollar package, according to Wilson. However, Wilson also expressed confidence in the team’s chances of advancing further in their World Cup bid when they play Barbados and Bermuda on October 7 and 11 respectively on away soil.
“They will enter a training camp this Sunday to prepare for the competition. The overseas players will also be meeting up with us and hopefully they get their visas in time since everything is in motion for it but we are confident that we will do well.
“One of our main players Christopher Bourne was injured yesterday (Wednesday) and he will be out for 4-6 weeks which is unfortunate. However, Jamaal Shabbaz is expected back as well but we will try to do our best,” Wilson stated.
General Manager of Roti Hut, Rajin Ganga also made a few remarks at the presentation: “We are glad to be onboard and we want to see the team go forward and get better in the future.”
Meanwhile Guyana will also take on Trinidad in the group but will combat the Soca Warriors on the 11th and 15th on home and away turf respectively.
