Albion Community Centre and Port Mourant Karibee Rice will clash today at the Port Mourant ground in the semi-final of the 2011 Ramcharitar Construction Services First Division 50-over cricket competition in Berbice.
To earn their places in the semi-final, Port Mourant Karibee Rice had easy first and second round victories against Blairmont Community Centre and Police “B” Division.
And Albion Community Centre after defeating Memorex Bermine in their first round and earning a bye was given the green light to advance by the Berbice Cricket Board Competitions Committee after a protest lodged by Memorex Bermine was turned down.
Memorex Bermine had objected to one of the umpires reversing a decision that saw Narsingh Deonarine being given out LBW when the player brandished his bat in the direction of the said umpire, in an effort to signal he had touched the ball.
Even though the Albion bowling will be weakened by the absence of Test leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and national left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul, they possess a strong batting line-up, including two former Test players Narsingh Deonarine and Sewnarine Chattergoon, 2010 Guyana Twenty20 star Jonathan Foo and the other Chattergoon siblings – Ramnarine and Harrinarine.
They will be hoping this batting depth gives them an edge of some sort.
With Moshin Perkhan, who scored two half centuries in Port Mourant’s two matches, reportedly migrated, Port Mourant will depend heavily on the batting of Shastri Persaud, Andre Percival, Devendra Thakurdeen and Chandrashekar Arjune. The spin attack comprising of Rajendra Bolo, Robert Moore, Percival and Thakurdeen could give Albion some headaches.
The umpires named are Rafik Latif and Imran Moakan.
The match is scheduled to start at 09:30 hours.
