Police on the West Demerara are investigating a case where an 11-year-old boy attempted to sexually assault a seven-year-old female and injured her with a knife.
Police sources said that the incident occurred on Thursday and the boy was taken into custody. Due to the sensitivity of the case, a number of factors have to be taken into account before charges are laid, this newspaper was told. During the incident on Thursday, the youth injured the female with a knife and she had to be taken to the hospital for treatment, Stabroek News was told.
It is not clear how badly the girl was injured and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
