The 2011 Tenelec Incorporated first division limited overs competition organized by the Berbice Cricket Board, continued last Saturday with only one of the scheduled fifth round matches taking place.
The match saw Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets staving off a spirited challenge from Blairmont Community Centre to win by an eight-run margin.
The game between Memorex Bermine and Police “B” Division was postponed upon request by the `B’ Division cricketers owing to work commitments at the New Amsterdam Town Day while the other remaining between Skeldon Community Centre and West Berbice also had to be pushed back due to Skeldon’s inability to get their ground ready after school sports there on Friday.
In the match played at the Rose Hall Town Ground and which was reduced to 35-overs-a-side because of a late start due to overnight and morning rainfall, Rose Hall Town batted first and reached 183 for 8 in their 35-overs.
Former Berbice Under-19 cricketer Khemraj Mahadeo top-scored with 73 (7×4 and 4×6).
It was his third consecutive half century in the competition.
Berbice all-rounder Rajiv Ivan supported with 26. Bowling for Blairmont Community Centre, off-spinners Devendra Lalsa took 3 for 27 and Shabeer Baksh 2 for 31.
In reply, Blairmont slumped to 2 for 2 in the second over before Romesh Boodram and Deveshwari Prashad put on 33 for the third wicket.
But after that stand two more quick wickets fell leaving Blairmont precariously placed on 42 for 4.
However Prashad, who was still there, and he added another 41 runs with Omesh Mangal who fell for 21 with the score 83 for 5.
BLairmont then slumped to 114 for 7 before Wagar Hassan and Abdul Subhan put on 26 for the eighth wicket to take Blairmont to 141 for 8 in the 32nd over with the side still needing 34 to secure victory in 3.3 overs.
Hassan and Shabeer Baksh put on 22 runs before Hassan fell for 30, leaving Baksh and Andrew Tageram to get 11 in the last over. They could, however, only score two more runs, before Baksh (9) fell to Dominic Rikhi and Blairmont were dismissed for 165 in 34.2 overs.
Bowling for RHTGG, former Guyana Under-15 off-spinner Shailendra Shameer took 3 for 18 and Guyana Under-19 off-spinner Loyydel Lewis 2 for 24 from seven overs each.
