APNU presidential candidate Brigadier (rtd) David Granger lamented the poor treatment meted out to New Amsterdam residents by town and regional officials, when he joined its 120th Town Day anniversary celebrations on Saturday.
According to a press release New Amsterdam Mayor Claude Henry and regional and town officials welcomed Granger to the festivities. Granger congratulated residents on their history and achievements. He also recalled an earlier visit to the Smythfield ward of the town earlier in the week where he witnessed residents struggling to recover from a recent flooding caused by a breach in the Canje River dam. In response, the APNU presidential candidate called for greater regional and government support for the town.
Granger also lamented the PPP/C administration’s decision to bypass the town as the site for the Berbice River Bridge, robbing residents of an opportunity to increase their earnings through trade, transportation and in the services sector.
