(Barbados Nation) Barbados is joining its Caribbean neighbours in opening its doors to offshore medical schools.
The investments involved could reach several millions of dollars.
Minister of Health Donville Inniss told the MIDWEEK NATION in New York that the Government had given the green light to proposals for two foreign-owned offshore medical schools to open campuses in the country to train students to become doctors in North America.
“We have seen some diversification in the health sector so that it can become another segment of economic development in our society. I think we have reached a level of maturity in Barbados where we are prepared to accept and recognize that what people call offshore medical schools could have a presence in Barbados without taking anything from the University of the West Indies (UWI).
