After supporting the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) with a one million dollar package in financing and accessories last Friday to boost the national football team ahead of its two important upcoming engagements, yesterday the Bakewell Group of companies hosted the Golden Jaguars to lunch at its Roti Hut branch on Albert Street.
Speaking to the media, captain of the Guyana team, England-born mid-fielder Chris Nurse, who plays professional soccer in the North American soccer league for Carolina RailHawks FC, thanked Roti Hut for hosting the side for lunch while elaborating on the mood within the national camp, ahead of the return leg Group B clash versus Barbados on Friday in their CONCACAF 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.
“The mood in the squad is very good. We have been training hard in camp and I believe at the moment we are well prepared for the Barbados game. We played them before and won so we know what to expect, so I see no reason why we can’t get a positive result again,” a confident Nurse said.
“We also know what the facilities and the surface will be like in Barbados which is something fairly similar to what we have been training on recently, so with all factors considered we are looking pretty good at the moment,” he added.
When asked how the new additions such as Leon Cort, Ricky Shakes and Alaniano Mounter have been gelling with the squad so far, he said that currently and going forward he hopes that they will bring experience and leadership to the national side.
General Manager of Roti Hut, Rajin Ganga, wished the Golden Jaguars all the best and encouraged them to make Guyana proud.
The national side had one other practice session at the Providence stadium yesterday afternoon.
They are scheduled to depart for Barbados this morning.
