A 24-year-old man who allegedly used indecent language to a police corporal was yesterday placed on $5,000 bail after he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation is that on October 2 at Independence Boulevard, Georgetown, Andrew Harris used indecent language to Police Corporal Maxwell.
In presenting the facts to the court, the prosecution said that the Virtual Complainant (VC) is a police corporal and on the day in question the VC was on mobile patrol duty in the Independence Boulevard area. The accused was walking on the public road and he was stopped by the VC. The prosecution further stated that the defendant abused the VC using indecent language. The matter was reported at the Ruimveldt Police Station and the man was subsequently charged.
When given a chance to speak, the accused told the court that on the day of the incident he was not walking but in fact he was riding his motorcycle. “De officer see me and ask me who de bike belong to, so I tell he it is me own. Afterwards he ask me where is de [expletive] registration papers for de bike so I ask he who he think he talking to – yuh crass [irritant],” he said. He added that the officer stopped him in front of his home demanding the papers for the bike and at that time the motorbike was already parked in front of his residence. The magistrate placed the accused on $5,000 bail and the matter will be called again on October 27.
