A man who pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife along with three counts of threatening behaviour in the North West District was yesterday sentenced to 27 months imprisonment after he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Between September 25 and 30 at Section Two, Monkey Mountain, North West District, Elmo King assaulted Krobina King so as to cause her actual bodily harm. He also made use of threatening language to her and to John King and Robertson Roth.
In presenting the facts Prosecutor Jairam Luckhai told the court that on the day in question, King, who was under the influence of alcohol, dealt his wife and the two other parties cuffs. The prosecutor also told the court that King placed a knife to the woman’s throat and threatened to kill her if she left him.
When given a chance to speak, King told the court: “I tek a hook rod and wipe she… is only when I drink I does behave bad.”
The magistrate then advised him, “if drinking causes you to behave bad what does it mean? You have to stop drinking! Your actions have consequences and unless you pay for these consequences you will never learn.”
King seemed remorseful after he was told by the magistrate that he spend 18 months in prison for the assault along with a concurrent 9 months for each count of threatening behaviour.
